The problem
The date is stamped inside the helmet, and nowhere else.
Two dozen pieces between the coat, the pants, the hoods, the harnesses and the bottles. Each has its own manufacture date and its own life, and every one of those dates is on a label you have to turn the gear inside out to read.
So nobody checks until somebody asks, and by then a piece has been in the rotation two years past its date.
What's inside
The date on the label, plus the years, gives the retirement date.
Type each item once: what it is, the make and model, the date it was made and how many years it is good for. The file works out when it retires, counts the days to that date and marks anything already past.
It holds no standard and checks nothing against one. The service life is the figure you put in, from wherever you get it.
Items. One row each, with the category, the make and model, the manufacture date and the service life in years.
Retires on. The manufacture date plus the years, with the days counted from today, so nothing has to be worked out twice.
Past its life. A plain Yes on anything already over, so what is out of date is a list rather than a worry.
The Dashboard. How many are past their date, how many items across how many categories and makes, how many retire inside a year and which one is oldest.
The chart. How many items fall out of service in each year, so a heavy year is visible while there is still time to ask for it.
Red and gold. A retirement date already passed turns red. One inside a year turns gold.
Set up. Your own categories and makes, behind the dropdowns on Items.
Sample items. Twenty-four made-up ones across ten categories, so the counts make sense before you type your own.

Questions
Before you buy.
Does it know the service life for my gear?
No. Nothing is built in and nothing is checked against a standard. You type the years, from the label, the manual or whatever your department goes by, and the file does the arithmetic.
What is In service since for?
The day the item went into the rotation, which is usually later than the day it was made. It is there for the record. The countdown runs off the manufacture date, which is the one that matters.
Is this the department’s inventory?
No. It is your own file, for the gear you are accountable for. Nobody else sees it unless you hand it to them.
S
Ask for the replacement the year before you need it.
No app to learn. No new account. No monthly anything.
